Tagged up for Web 2.0

I have now added tags to The Humor Archives, not entirely sure what effect this will have but I’ll be experimenting with them over the next few months.

For those who aren’t familiar tags, sometimes referred to as rel-tags, these are a micro-format for marking pages as being within a category (although they are looser than categories). They seem to be a replacement of the oft abused meta keywords used so much in the early web (web 1.0?) with more visibility to the end user. I’m not sure what, other than visibility, rel-tags have over meta keywords but I’m willing to give them a try for now.

As far as I know Technorati and Nutch are the only websites/software that can index or use external rel-tags but I’d certainly be interested to know of others.
